ABOUT

Accomplished jazz trombonist and savvy artistic director, Hélène Lemay regularly performs on the Quebec scene with a wide number of artists with jazz, pop and classical backgrounds. She is renowned for her talent and musical flexibility, Hélène Lemay graduated her bachelor's degree in Music at the University of Sherbrooke. The Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec also awarded her with grants on several occasions.

Founder and President of Tuxedo Swing Productions, Hélène has a solid reputation and creates large-scale cultural events with the greatest artists on the national and international scenes. As the Director of the Grand Ensemble de Musiques Urbaines (GEMU), she initiates tours that highlight diverse artistic productions, including La vie est musique, which won the Youth Initiative prize in 2018.

Thanks to the support of major donors and partners, her productions are now presented in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. Her passion for promoting Quebec artists from different musical backgrounds also led her to create in her hometown the Warwick Cultural Series, reflecting the eclecticism of her tastes.

Since 2015, Hélène Lemay has been a Buffet Crampon Paris / Antoine Courtois artist. She immediately fell in love with the Courtois trombone, its extraordinary dynamic spectrum and its incredible precision. Since then, she has an exclusive contract with Courtois instruments.

Life is music*

From morning to night, music is everywhere in our lives. This is what the workshop La vie est musique demonstrates to us by bringing together children's literature and original musical creation.

Screenings*

The Projections show offers an unprecedented symbiosis in which musical creations combining acoustic and digital music join various literary texts and a projection of powerful visual works.

Anthem to the Poutine

This is very first poutine anthem, entitled "Le grain du jour", launched on the occasion of the preparation of the largest poutine (3034 kg, Guinness record), for which Hélène Lemay played the role of the artistic director and creator of the anthem.

Inspirations*

A colorful musical journey to discover a one of a kind and diversified repertoire, traditional dances from Eastern Europe, klezmer music and jazz.

Podcast "The Frosties"**

Creation of hybrid musical compositions intended for podcasting, combining acoustic instruments with new digital technologies, in interrelation with a narrative framework.

Sound Exploration*

A breathtaking sound and virtual exploration with three virtuosos who transport you to the heart of the adventures of the explorer Bernard Voyer.

Hybrid musical creations (acoustic and digital)**

Antarctic

In January 2020, Hélène Lemay realized a dream: to be the first trombonist to play on an ice floe in Antarctica.

Philippines

As part of a humanitarian tour, Hélène Lemay visited the Philippines in January 2018 with André Moisan.

Nordic

Between February 20 and March 4, 2020, Hélène Lemay took part in a tour of the shows "La vie est musique" and "Exploration sonore" in the North of Canada.
